Description
The Chakalaka relish is a hot and spicy vegetable sauce from South Africa. A classic way to use up leftovers without a specific recipe, that every family cooks with ingredients they like such as tomatoes, carrots, beans, onions, cabbage ... And, of course, the right spices are of utmost importance for the sauce to get its typical fiery taste.
The Stay Spiced! Chakalaka spice mix contains, among other things:
- Hot chilli & ginger
- Fruity tomato powder
- Smoked peppers
- Fragrant cardamom and cinnamon
- Garlic, onion and untreated sea salt
Tips: The Chakalaka Sauce tastes delicious both warm and cold - especially when prepared a little ahead of time and warmed up, the aromas really come into their own. Chakalaka is traditionally served with bread, stews, grilled meat, vegetables or rice dishes. You can also use the spice mix to season meatballs, savoury muffins, soups etc - be creative!
