The typical Austrian pancake was invented by a Hofküchen - pastry chef who created new dishes for the notoriously weight-conscious Empress Elisabeth by creating a new composition from pancake dough and stewed plums. The Emperor Franz ate the portion of the Empress with the words "Oh well, let me try the rubbish that our Leopold has cooked up". This is how the dish was named Schmarrn, which is the austrian slang word for rubbish. Kaiserschmarrn - in Hungarian Császármorzsa - is a preparation of pancake batter and is one of the most famous desserts of Austrian cuisine .
