Description

The Himmelreich (Kingdom of Heaven) is probably the steepest vineyard on the Leithaberg and something very special. It was recultivated again by the Bayer-Erbhof, Sommer and Liegenfeld wineries. An ancient vineyard, abandoned at some point in the 1950s because the tractors that appeared at the time simply couldn't manage the incline, then forested and rather accidentally rediscovered while hiking.

With this Grüner Veltliner, clearly taste the vineyard (terroir) rather than the grape variety. Carefully picked by hand, followed by a 24-hour maceration, then by spontaneous fermentation in 500l wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks.

Yellow, ripe fruit aromas fill the nose with a fine wood kiss. Extremely juicy and elegant on the palate. Apricots accompany a touch of white nougat. Powerful with a sweet structure. Harmonious and very long-lasting with a slightly salty, nutty finish. Still young but very drinkable. Can mature well for at least 12 years.
