• Basil can easily be sown in pots, in window boxes, on the windowsill and from May on, directly in the field. Basil prefers humus-y, loose soils and a sunny, sheltered location without blazing midday sun. Basil in particular needs a lot of heat when germinating. Since basil is a light germinator, the seeds should not be covered with soil when sowing.
