A Christmas tree you grow yourself is probably the most sustainable Christmas gift you can find. Since it takes a few years until it's ready to be decked out with Christmas ornaments, you can enjoy watching it grow in the meantime.

The Nordmann fir is one of the most popular varieties for a Christmas tree because it smells wonderful, has soft needles and a rich green colour. Watching it grow and thrive is a truly special joy!

Contents:

• • 5 Nordmann fir seeds (lat. Abies nordmanniana)
• • 1 compostable coconut pot
• • 1 coconut substrate tablet
• • 1 instruction leaflet

Directions:

• Soak the seeds in cold water for about 12 hours.
• Store the seeds in an air-permeable bowl in the refrigerator for approx. 12 hours.
• Remove the seeds from the refrigerator and moisten with cold water. Be careful not to leave any water in the bowl.
• Repeat every two days.
• After 3 to 5 weeks, the first white shoots will appear - the seedling can now be planted.
• Place the coconut substrate tablet in the pot and add water until it swells.
• Add a maximum of 2 seeds approx. 1 cm deep in the coconut substrate.
• Move the coconut pot to a sunny, warm place.
• First application of fertiliser: when the plant is about 10 cm tall.

Additional information:

• When the sapling is about 10 cm tall, it can be transplanted either into a pot or into the garden.
• Protect the tree from frost for the first few years.
• It takes about 7 years to grow a stately Christmas tree (approx. 2 m).
