Trend Drink Switchel - A Healthy Thirst Quencher You Can Make Yourself!

Switchel is a low-calorie lemonade made from water, naturally cloudy apple cider vinegar and other ingredients such as ginger or lemon and a sweetener such as sugar or honey. The soft drink is suitable as an apple cider vinegar cure for digestion, as a support for a diet or simply as a healthy thirst quencher on hot summer days.

You can buy Switchel or use this recipe to make it yourself:

  • 100 g ginger
  • 2-3 tbsp honey or agave syrup
  • 4-5 tbsp naturally cloudy apple cider vinegar
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 litre of water

Peel and slice the ginger. Bring the water to a boil, add the ginger and simmer for about two minutes. Then take the pot off the heat and let the ginger soak in the hot water for another 20 minutes. The longer you let it soak the more intense the taste will be.

Put the remaining ingredients in a jug and add the ginger water through a sieve. You can enjoy this refreshing beverage both warm (great for warming up in winter!) or cold. When it comes to the quantities of the individual ingredients, feel free to add more or less and see what you like best.

Experiment with different flavours

Try different variations and flavours: you can refine Switchel with seasonal herbs from the garden, such as mint, rosemary, basil, sage or thyme. You can also add two bags of green tea or fruit such as lemons, oranges or limes. Or mix some Switchel with gin as an after-work drink. ;)

Enjoy!
