Do you need a quick snack for your barbecue party? Or a quick side dish for a family meal? Then the grilled bread in a pan is just the dish you need! The recipe is super easy to follow and can be made in the oven, in the oven-safe pan or in a Dutch Oven.
What is a Dutch Oven anyway?
The Dutch Oven is a three-legged saucepan made of cast iron that is placed directly on an open source of heat such as a coal fire. It has a lid that can be closed tightly. Dishes such as soups, roasts, but also bread and many other dishes can be easily prepared in it. A Dutch Oven can also be heated on other heat sources such as gas, briquettes or in the oven.
If you don't have a Dutch Oven, you can prepare the dishes in an oven-safe pan!
Open the can with the baking mix and take out the small ball of spices. Crumble this into a bowl and mix it with 5 tablespoons of apple juice or beer. If you prefer the grilled bread to look lighter, you can use olive oil as an alternative to brushing.
Mix 380 ml of water with the baking mix in another bowl and knead well. Let the dough stand at room temperature for 20-30 minutes, then knead well again and shape into balls. Cover the shaped dough pieces again for another 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, spread the spices, apple juice / beer mixture or olive oil on the dough.
Preheat the oven to 250 °C. Tip: Use only half of the dough for one serving. Roll out the dough flat and place it in the pan.
Bake the dough in the oven for 20 minutes with the lid (alternatively use aluminum foil) at 250 °C and for another 20 minutes without the lid at 180 °C *.
Et Voilà - Enjoy your grilled bread!
Our tip: Decorate your grilled bread creatively with tomatoes, herbs or edible flowers.
