Description
Müller-Thurgau (usually called Rivaner in Austria) is an old white wine grape. Bred in 1882 by Hermann Müller from the Swiss canton of Thurgau, the varietal has become less popular in recent years. However, with this "extreme" iteration, harvested from vines that have been growing on steep terraces in the Wachau for more than 60 years old, we'd argue that the grape shouldn't be written off quite yet.
Picked by hand, matured in concrete, and neither sulphurized nor filtered!
Subtle cloudy greenish-yellow in the glass. The nose is clean with notes of citrus, chamomile and almonds. It also has a pleasing, somewhat smoky minerality. There's enormous pressure on the palate but only 12.5% ABV. We find invigorating acidity and long-lasting, slightly nutty aromas. This isn't a mainstream wine. Instead, it's a treat for wine lovers.
An exciting wine that should be enjoyed without food and is sure to be the star of every tasting.
